"A boa constrictor measuring 6ft (1.8m) and ten other snakes have been stolen during a house burglary in the West Midlands.

Officers said thieves broke into the house in Holte Drive, Sutton Coldfield, early on Monday morning.

They said the offenders put the reptiles, which included corn snakes and a 4ft (1.2m) long Black King snake, into an empty cage and cloth sack.";

Hm i thought of a question while reading this article- is there anyway to "tag" snakes, maybe like microchip them or something, so they can be indentified if they are found after been stolen or lost etc? I really am not knowledgeable on snakes so i appologise if its a stupid question :lol: . .

I don't know the answer to your question, but what mean people those snakes were someones beloved pets :(

They put them all into one cloth sack?!

I wouldnt be surprised if they opened the bag and found half of them missing. :crazy:

I think you can tag snakes, with a little microchip. I think i read something about it. If someone stole my snake i would be well upset.

by the power of google.........................

Can reptiles and amphibians be identified with the AVID® microchip?

Yes. Microchips are the perfect method of identification for snakes, lizards and even alligators, turtles and toads. AVID® chips are used for pets, breeding facilities, and for research studies on endangered reptiles.

Poor fellas. Always upsets me to think that someone could be so Desperate as to steal an animal... like that person who stole the baby emperor penguin from the Zoo near me.
grrrr.

Hmm, well then, considering how expensive reptiles like snakes are in general these days, IMHO i think it should be the priority of any large snake owner to get their pet chipped then- its the least they can do to help protect their pet :nod: .

Hm i think this wasn't an act of desperation, this was an organised pre-meditated burgulary that had probably been done many times before by these guys (it only makes sense, it was such a bold haul it was unlikely to have been done by any first-time criminals), i think its likely the animals are to be sold on the black market- unfortunately there is a thriving trade for exotic animals like snakes, even the common varieties.

who would think to check the snake if its chipped though? you have to buy it first
