Bugs Or Babies

have a tank full of tiny swimming insect like things not sure if it is a bug or baby fish.had 3 platties which i believe are livebearers.The creatures crawled about on the bottom of the tank for a couple of weeks but now a lot of them are swimming about.They are about 1mm in size and appear to have some sort of dark markings on their backs maybe lines.2 female platties died shortly after we spotted the creatures leaving 1 male which now stays at the top of tank not going near the creatures.We also have 7 neon tetra's and 1 plek in the tank.If anyone could advise we would be very gratefull
