my friends tank has broken and i now have a firemouth (small) and an unknown cichlid PIC floating in bags in my tank. i dont know weather is wise to release them in to the tank as i have a firemouth in there already and a severum.

the tank is 350l

what should i do?

That Cichlid is a Ram.

Not too sure if it would be a good idea or not?

If you have some cover in the tank, you may be just fine.

Looks like a stressed ram in the pic. Firemouth should be ok with the other firemouth and serv, just depends if you have a male and female or same sex, I think same sex are ok together. the ram If you get is confirmed a ram wouldnt really mix well.

how can i sex the firemouths!?

i have a smaller tank with some neons in, could the ram go in there?

The ram will be okay with the Neons. What size tank is it?

30l is a bit small for a Ram.

Is your friend going to get the tank fixed or get a new one? If so, I guess the ram would be okay in there for a little while?

The ram would be better off with the neons rather than the serv and firemouth, the tank size is irrelivant as its better than a plastic bag that has no filtration. Sexing firemouths can be tricky as some females tend to have very long dorsal fins the same as the male, however the female tends to be a little paler in colour than the male. If you can get some pics up in the cichlid section no doubt someone can id the sex for you. But saying that they should be fine together for a couple of days till your friend sorts out their tank.

thanks for your help

ill put the ram in with the neons and the firemouth in the big tank

That is true, as the size of the tank (only in this situation) is irrelevant. Like star4 has mentioned, a tank is better than a bag, just so long your friend gets a new tank soon.

put the firemouth in and they are both in the same cave being nice as pie! :D

I do apologise, I just re-read my reply and it reads rather snotty about the tank size, I didnt mean it to come out like it did, just it was better than the bag but I think you know what I ment anyway  sorry I am tired.
