Hi, I'm looking for a bright blue feature fish for my tank.

The tank is 4 foot, 200 litres. Has a lot of orange, red and yellow fish. Platys, mollies and tetras. Two dwarf Gourami. One red tail black shark.

Everyone gets along very peacefully now.

I saw a beautiful cobalt blue discus fish on sale. Would this be suitable?

Hard water here.

Thanks,
Dean

Discus are for soft acidic water, not hard water.

There are some lovely blue guppies that you might want to consider to add a splash of 'blue'.   Or a small shoal of dwarf neon rainbowfish.  Ultimately, though, that would depend on the current stocking levels.

You can get blue Mickey Mouse platies, they'd fit with your current stocking

Thanks for the info. Didn't think a discus would work. But my partner was keen lol.

I have a blue mickey mouse platy but it's not really that blue lol. Will look into the neon rainbow fish and blue guppies. But not many choices around here and generally have to buy online so it's hard to know exactly what they look like.

Was also going to suggest a cobalt blue DG, if your others are general placid. A discus on its own would be very sad, particularly in the wrong type of water. Although tank bred specimens are actually less fussy than you might imagine, you'd still want a large, dedicated tank and a shoal.

Can't go wrong with a shoal of cardinal tetras, they look spectacular
