Can anyone recommend a brackish algae eater? I have my tank at a sp of 1.011, and I have a g. tile, ruby scat, tiger dat, ghost shrimp and two guppies (leftovers). I was thinking about nerite snails, but I can't seem to find where to purchase them (US). Also, I'm getting a lot of different feedback as to whether they can survive in brackish water. I've also heard that a bushy nose pleco would work, but I'm not a huge fan of plecos. Any suggestions?

Nerites are good choices for brackish water tanks but you do of course need to choose brackish water species. Freshwater species will tolerate low salinities up to SG 1.003 at 25 C just fine, but above that you want the true brackish water species. Allow 2-3 per 10 gallons. See my Brackish FAQ for a list of brackish water nerites.

Above SG 1.010 at 25 C you can also use some of the marine aquarium hermit crabs, such as Clibanarius tricolor.

Cheers, Neale
