This morning ive just got 2 Botia kubotai for my south-east asian tank. At the moment they are both about 7cm, how long will they take to reach full size? Beacause even though they are already looking happy they are dwarfed by my adult Synodontis Eruptus!!

They aren't the fastest growers - but feeding some live foods and a good variety of other food will help. But to see the best of them (and their personality), you really need to get two more. They tend to very nippy towards each other at certain times (not all the time) and can seem to beat each other up pretty badly during these fights. When you have 4 or more, you don't tend to see this.

Fabulous fish :good:

Here's a profile I did on them.

:D I agree fabulous fish. After watching them for a while i am now think along the same lines as you, Deffinatly a couple more!! Also another question, ive read in some places that their marking are individual because mine do look quite different. Does anyone know if it's true?

Well - there are some very varied markings. Here is a link with some good pictures of markings during growth.

Post some pics of yours if you can :)

Their markings will change considerably as they grow. They tend to be very golden with black vertical bands as juveniles. As they grow, the bands expand along the lateral line and fill in so they become more black. This results in alot of small golden poka-dot paterns that give them their common name. Adults are usually mostly black.

Full growth will probably take a few years.
