Within 24 hours of being adding to the 210 our pair of blue rams have laid eggs, very actively guarding them.

Has anyone had luck with babies surviving in a community tank or should we try to net the fry out once they hatch?

No idea but that is very exciting! Keep us updated with this one

I doubt they'll live more than a day or two if they make it past the larval stage in the average community, so I would net them out and then consider a ram tank so I could watch the broodcare with the next spawn. It's great fishwatching.

For now, lights on 24/7 as Cichlids defend the eggs visually, and night time is the right time for opportunistic predators.

Most likely will get eaten upon hatching. What other fish are in the tank?

Also good job getting the rams to breed. If I am not mistaken, those are German Blue Rams, which can be a bit unpredictable when it comes to breeding. They are also crappy parents, which will eat their fry if stressed or just bored (joking). You must have good water parameters, they are much pickier compared to their Bolivian cousins which I plan on breeding in a few months.

They are German blue rams yes :)

We have young corydoras, young emperor tetras, silver tip tetras and juvenile angelfish

So maybe they will survive if the parents guard well, but they could get stressed out. I would still collect fry and put them in a breeder net if possible, until they are around 3/4 of an inch, or around 4-6 weeks.
