Hello all, #

I am just after some advise to try and treat my blue ram. it bounces off the bottom and has a dogey pevic fin. It looks split. There is no rapid breathing from the fish, and it is swimming around. There is no white spot or any obvious signs on the extremities of the fish.

My water stats are fine i am just about to do a water change cos my nitrAte is 40ppm
ph = 7.4
ammonia = 0ppm
nitrIte = 0ppm

Any ideas to help me save my fish

Regards

Gaz

Check the gills over to see if there red and inflamed or pale with excess mucas.
Any excess mucas on the body of the fish.
Can he maintain his balance in the water.
Is he darting.
Bounching off things in the tank can be bad water quality, stray voltage, toxins, to parasites.

How ong have you had the ram.

I always thought Blue Rams like softly acidic water, meaning around 6.5 - 6.8 and that they are very sensitive to water quality. If he survives he will definitely need the water change so you can lower the nitrates.

I see. i think the ph is slightly high but i havnt had any problems before. I have just done a large water change and i will add some anti - internal bacteria. My water is normally ok. I will just have to wait and see.

Is he flicking and rubbing.
Water quality fine so it can't be that.
How do his gills look.

your majorly over stocked if your sig is correct, been overstocked is one of the easiest ways to contract illness.

I have had this tank running since last september and had hardly and problems appart from a touch of white spot on the clowns. This was when i fist put them in. I have just been away for seven weeks and i have been back for 3 weeks. Unfortunatly i organised a tank clean for when i was away but i was let down. It wasnt their fault they had family trouble and had to go home early. I have given the tank some good maintenance sice coming home. I have cleaned the gravel well and i have pulled the Nitrate down to well under 30ppm. It was 100ppm when i got home. I dont think it is overstocked because surly when i got home it would be higher than that.

On paper i suppose it does look a lot of fish but if you where to see it i think you would be suprised.

If the tank hasn't been touched for 7 weeks accounts for the sick fish.
Nitrates only get harmful to fish when over 100.
Bad water quality takes it toll on fish.
R.I.P.
Inflamed gills can be bad water quality, gill flukes, to bacterial gill rot.

Signs of gill flukes are.
Red inflamed gills, or pale gills with excess mucas.
Opaque body with excess slime.
Flicking and rubbing against objects in the tank.
Laboured breathing, or gasping at the suface of the tank.
Sores on the body of the fish.
Swimming in a jerky movement.
Erratic swimming.
Weightloss sometimes.
Spitting food out.

I see. My partner is pregnant so it was a bit difficult at the time and the clean i organised didnt happen half way through. I have been home for 3 weeks thought it might have affected them before now... All other fish seem fine at the moment.

is this the best course of action at the moment as in treating after water change with anit internal bacteria#

Have you check the gill fluke signs.
Keep going with the med if you thinks it bacterial.

The guppy was just floating round breathing was fast and the gills where bright red. it wont be alive much longer it was looking pretty ill poor thing. Is that the best option? from what you where saying looks like it is. I will do another dose as directed on saturday. I dont know weather to dose again a week later?

Just to be sure
