Hello, I've got a quick question. Has/does anyone here use the tahitian(sp) moon sand? I have one tank with black gravel and one with play sand. I find it easier to plant in the playsand than the gravel but really like the look of the black gravel. So, I was wondering if any of you use black sand and how you get on with it. The only black sand I have found on the internet is the tahitian moon sand, are there any others? It will be used over a fertilizing substrate like tropica complete or similar, if that makes any difference.
Cheers fishbone

I used 3M colorquartz in my tank. It's much cheaper than Tahitian moon, especially if you have a large tank.

The product is really made for pool linings, but works well in my tank. They claim it doesn't alter water chemistry and what I've seen supports that. It does take a good washing to get it to run clear though.

Here's my new planted tank with tropica mud underneath. It's Uni-Pac Black sand, you can get it from Maidenhead aquatic shops.

I've not found anywhere in the uk that supplies this. Does sound really good though.

Ah, I've heard that from someone else too. Not sure if they're selling it across the pond.

Maybe I should start importing it, bagging it up and reselling it! If only I had the space and the money.

Looks like a trip to Maidenhead is in order.
