Hello everyone :)

I have got some good news. (for me anyway :D )

I have been breeding black neons for quite some time now and have not had much success in raising them.... until now :)

I came home for the weekend and found that my tetras now have the neon black line running accross their body from head to tail. They are now just over a centimetre in length and they are looking healthy.

Hopefully this time I can raise them to ful size. :)

Well done - it's always nice to crack a problem like that isn't it!

Congrats......I really like black neons...in fact I added another 6 today and what a difference it made. Now there are 12 in the tank and you really notice them now.

thats great news!!! i wish i could get my glow-lights or neons to breed readily!

lol, they probably do, but by the time i see the eggs are eaten

My brother claimed the neon fry so I gave them to him. He went and bought a tank and filter etc. and I helped him set it up. The fry are getting bigger.

Now I have room to breed some more black neons ;)

For some reason my black neons will breed readily and my regular neons won't. Sometimes the black neons breed in the community tank, (all 10 of them) and the regular neons dont do a thing. Maybe they are just harder to breed than the black neons or there are no pairs :dunno: . I have noticed that there are alot more female neons than males.

The breeding requirements of Black Neons, (and Glowlights incidently), are quite different to "regular" Neons. For very many years, Neons were considered to be unbreedable. They need very soft acidic water, i.e. less then 2 degrees of hardness.

I often recommend Glowlights to people who want to breed tetras, I have always found them to be the easiest.
