I currently have a natural tank with mixed natural gravel (that my diddy panda corys blend in with 8-/), bogwood, sandstones, some plastic (silver dollars eat most natural) and a few tough natural plants. With a planty sort of background.

My new (larger) tank is soon to be set up - so considering something completely different!!!
Thinking of a black background - wondering about an internal 3D sort or just an exterior stuck on, plain, black vinyl?
Also considering black gravel! What I've seen is a resin coated (fine) gravel.
Q - any experience of the coated gravels? Colour leaching into tank or toxic for fish? Any problems for my corys?
+ what do you think of the colour scheme? Will continue with lots of green stuff - mixed plastic and real, to form a more natural look. I'm a gardener at heart, but love my silver dollars so have to find a compromise to suit us both!
Ta!

most black stuff is none toxic as its glass,( or the stuff iv seen) so it shouldn't leach anything, if you want a cheap background, bin liners are the best thing out there just cut one up and stick to the outside of the tank, i use them on all my tanks and they look great

Sounds too simple using bin bags ;-) , many thanks! - looks good in your signature tank!
The gravel I was looking at was "unipac" - available in many LFS (uk) and on eBay - resin coated.
Not sure how the glass sort would be for the Cory's?

I just stuck some black card against the back of my aquarium. Some people paint theirs (on the outside) as it gives a more intense colour. I didn't like the vinyl background when I had it as I found that water would get between it and the glass and would never dry out and it looked awful.

I've heard that the coloured coating can wear off of coloured gravel after a while. Have you considered black sand? Your cories will thank you for it.
