Hey guys,

yay...im getting a black ghost knife fish...i was just wondering what other fish do u think i should add to my aquarium...i have a peppered catfish as well.

Thanks,
Beggs

If you could tell us about your tank that would be great! Ie, how big, gallons, planted? etc etc! :)

oh ok....well i have a 4 ft tank and its is plamted with various plants and few rock caves....a couple of ornaments...like a lamp and a ship wreck....yeh thats about it.

thanks,
Beggs

If by peppered catfish you mean cory i suggest getting 5 more to make a schoal of 6. You do have enough room. :)

You could have Gouramis, Maybe a pair of Dwarfs, What else are you interested in? There are alot of fish out there... :p

You could add most any shoaling fish, as long as they are non aggressive and aren't fin nippers. You don't want to get fish in there that get too big either, they will compete for food. You BGK will get anywhere between 8 - 10 inches but it will take it awhile. You can populate the tank with Rainbows, Gouramis(Dwarfs), Tetras(Not neons, I have Congos with mine), and most bottom dwellers. BGK are great fish but are delicate when it comes to water conditions so be careful.

hey beggs, are you an aussie as we call the peppered cat that as well. I have a bgk aswell and i have some Widow Tetras, Guppies and Elephant Nose, in a 2ft tank, shortly upgrading to a 4ft tank (just waiting for the silicon to dry). Some people dont recomend haveing bgk's and elephant nose fish together but mine have been good companions to each other, as they are electric fish they say that. Bgk love frozen blood worm and will take flakes, loves live small food but it has to be bottom food for them to eat.

most people say they are nocturnal which is sort of true but mine seem to be more active during the day. also becareful as they do seem to love perfect water quality. Also they love clear plastic tube for hiding as long as it is reasonably tight for them.

If ya need any more help just ask.

any small tetras are fish food once the BGK hits 8", that have huge mouths but hide them well!!

they can also grow to more like 18" I currently have a 9" one and he's still growing quite fast.

will quite happily rip apart a 2" lance fish(froozen fish)

my knife is about 4 inches, and his mouth is pretty small Paulmts... but i think once theyre around 8 inches it would be much bigger, knifes can get along with a biiig variety of fish acually

You could probably put in a pair of Kribensis or Keyhole cichlids. Or Dwarf Flag Cichlids. I've got four of them. Their soooooo cool.   Kribensis and Keyhole Cichlid grow about 10cm and the Dwarf Flag Cichlids about 7.5 cm. You could have lots of fish with him. I would say a shaol of Cories, a shaol of medium sized tetras (about 2 1/2") and a pair of about 5 inch Cichlids. And probably some Gourami. (Dwarf, Opaline, Three spot, Gold, Giant).

P.S By the way, Giant gourami only actually grow too about 4" if you wanted too know.

Giant??? One species gets to over 2ft long! Unless you find the smaller type.

EDITED due to my pathetic knowledge of gouramis.

er, actually there are two different species with the common name of "Giant Gourami". one grows to 4" and the other hits 24".

don't how to distinguish them beyond that :dunno:

yep im an aussie....yeh i was thinking of getting an elephant nosed fish and people have been telling me about the electric charges. You obviously have them in the same tank and there are no probs by the sounds of it. My tanks is a 4ft one so would you agree that it is large enough to house a BGK and an elephant nose fish. Also i was just wondering due to the BGK water sensitivity...how often would you recommend changing my water and what percentage water changes. I curretnly do around 50% water change every 2-3 wks.

Thanks,
Beggs

it's better to do less more often water changes.

so 30% every 1-2 weeks would be alot better. and this way the nitrates aren't building up to high levels then suddenly going back down again.
