Hi everyone I posted a topic awhile ago saying I bought my fluvial 90 about 3monthes ago and on late on in July I bought the fluvial external filter which I think started my cycle again. Last week I went to wales for a week and left my mum in charge of the tank but didn't expect her to change water so I told her to use the ammonia remover until I get back. When I came back I checked the water and ammonia wasn't too bad but nitrite was deep purple around 5ppm and nitrate was around 40 go 80ppm so I did a water change right away but today the ammonia is about 0.25 and all others are 0ppm is this an issue??

I'd keep a very close eye on things over the next few days and be ready to do large water changes if levels of ammonia get much above 0.1. ideally I'd change another 50% or so now to achieve that.

I can only assume that the ammonia remover did it's job and essentially starved your filter of food for a week, so it's sulking now. Hopefully you'll just mini-cycle and get back up to normal running very quickly.

hi rob if the remover starved the filter why did the nitrite and nitrate increase over the week i was away? all so i should mention im still wating for the cycle to complete since i bought the tank but like i said i think the new filter i bought started it again? should i vac the gravel as well or just suck the water out

al so should i clean the external filter out as its got a lot of floating bit inside and a few leaves from my plants should i scope them out or tip them out with the water??

just done a 50% change and there is still ammonia in the tank around 0.25 but ive just checked my tap water and thats showing ammonia of around 0.25 so what should i do there?
