i have moved my fish from a 2Ft tank in to a 3.5ft (120lt) i have seen a big improvment in the size of the fish all seemed to have got massive. which is good. do you think a change in the environment like this encourges the fish to grown faster?

some breeds it does, but the larger cichlids and plecs dont seem to be able to stunt, plecs especially they just seem to grow and grow.

The way that I look at it is that a lack of restriction on their swimming space encourages them to grow at the rate at which they should have been growing in the first place. But yes, almost everyone I know who has upgraded tanks has noticed a jump.

Good on you for giving them a new home.

It does seem to encourage growth. I've even seen it in plecos. I had my gibby pleco in a 29gallon tank for a while, then I switched it over to a 55gallon tank and it grew from 2.5"-5" in the 55gallon tank in just over a month! Where as in the 29gallon tank it didn't grow at all.

A large suitably sized tank is not the only thing that will encourage fish to grow, fish will also grow more if you do regular medium sized water changes on the tank and feed them a good suitable diet containing fresh foods as well :good: .

Most fish can have their growth stunted, although stunted growth isn't always nesarsarily cause by keeping the fish in a tank too small for it, stunted growth can be caused by other factors as well.

I hope my fish start growing a bit bigger soon then!

(Always thought they were a tad small, even thought they're small fish.)
