Fish Herder
so my LFS owner recommended a site to me as a place for some quality fish. While I was checking them out, I noticed he had a few wild betta species in stock. I'm interested in the Betta uberis but it's so new there isn't much information on it, and even the guy who runs/owns the site and aquarium doesn't know a great deal about them as this is the first time he's carried them.
HOWEVER, they are supposed to be a part of the coccina family according to one of the few things I could find on them, so i would assume (perhaps incorrectly) that their care is similar. I barraged poor Frank with a lot of questions, and to his credit he replied quickly and answered them as best he could, but like i said, he doesn't know a great deal about them yet and so he couldn't answer all my questions.
He recommended me to IBC, which i've never really looked at a great deal so i'm going to try to find some info there, but if i'm correct in guessing that their care would be similar to Betta coccina, I would appreciate any experiences you wild-keepers have had with them.
thanks!

<<What has your experience with them been? >>
Limited. They were on the import list, and I decided to bring them in.
<< Do they have very specific requirements? I know that sometimes wild
species of bettas can be touchier about their water specifications. >>
I am keeping them in slightly acidic water with little hardness.
<<Are these fish are wild caught? >>
Supposedly captive bred.
<<I haven't kept wild species before (only splendens), would these fish
not
be a good first wild betta?>>
<< Would they be okay in a peaceful community, or are they best in
pairs, or
singly?>>
I really don't have enough experience with them to give you a proper
answer.
<<will they eat frozen food (bloodworm, daphnia)>>
They are eating live Daphnia and frozen bloodworms.
