hello, i just recently got a new betta, and an african dwarf frog. I have heard either way on whether or not the two get along, but mine seem to be an interesting couple (non-violent :). My question is that, the freeze dried bloodworms i planned to feed the frog get gobbled by the fish before the frog realizes it is up there. I know the food must sink, but how can i make it sink without the fish getting ahold of it? Thanks alot, and I love the forums =)

Freezedried bloodworms don't sink, your betta will gobble them up (as you've found out). I feed my frogs frozen bloodworms, they sink right to the bottom. The best thing to do is to take a medicine dropper or turkey baster and squirt the bloodworms right infront of the frog, or dangle the bloodworm infront of his face. They can't see too well so if you just let the worms sink to the bottom he may never find them.

cool thanks alot for the reply =), i dont have any of those yet, but i will get some asap

thanks!

gotta be careful with the freeze dried foods, too, as they are a suspected cause of constipation and have questionable nutritional value. Most folk won't give them the time of day. frozen or live food is best

Use a Turkey baster, u can usually get them from big supermarkets for a few pounds, frogs are terribly hard to feed when you have lots of fish i used to spend 15-20 mins 3 to 4 times of week trying to directly feed mine, i personally wouldnt have one in a community tank again, but i would love to have a few with maybe a sole betta in future.

What I found works great for my frogs is I put a small shallow dish in the one front corner. I used one of those clay pot bottoms that I bought at walmart. When I feed the morning bloodworms (frozen), I always feed in that corner, plenty make it to the bottom so the frogs always know where to look. We also drop about 4 frog tadpole bites per frog by pinching them between our fingers and releasing them underwater so they drop down right away instead of floating around on the current. The frogs usually come running to eat when I feed, but if they don't pop out, they know food is there in the same place every day.
