For the tank you specified, the 50 gallon, I would put something a little more large, to make the most of your tank. Silver dollars are nice sized for the tank you said. If you only wanted fish in your list, I suppose the tigar barbs would be ok.

I like the 'high finned' tetras like rosy and the black phantoms (wow sounds like a 70s band)

I love the way they 'sail' around the tank almost turning on their sides to corner

would silver dollars be ok in a community 50g tank with plants and angels and a kissing gourami and ofcourse corys. if so how many

Yes, they are all compatible with each other, but corys like to be in groups too. For your tank specs, I would say 2 silver dollars, 2 angelfish, 4 corys and 1 kissin' gourami should be ok. The silver dollars like to be in groups but the angels should help a little.

My favorites, which are not on the list, are the glowlight tetras. I prefer their softer colors to the more flashy neons and cardinals.

Do watch the size of the fish you put in with your kisser, ryan. It will get fairly large and so neons might not be a good idea.

As for corys, the more the merrier!
