Hi,

Ive got a Platy that is turning in on its self and was wondering what the problem is. It started two days ago and I dont know what to do with her. She cant swim properly and sometimes struggles to eat.

Heres a pic to help you get what Im talking about.

Has anybody seen this before and know whats wrong?

Thanks.

That looks bad.
I think I would put her out of her misery bless her.
Bent spine can mean old age, injury, fish tb, internal parasites.

She's swimming a bit better now and has started eating from the floor. I really dont want to kill her if theres even a remote possibility that she'll live.

Is there anyway of finding out?

You can't mend a bent spine.
Noticed any fish doing long stringy white poo or clear mucas poo.
Check your fish anus for being enlarged or red and inflamed.
Forgot to say in previous reply bent spines can be an injury aswell.
How old is she?

Ive had her about a year and a half. The fish poo seems normal and the anus isnt red or inflamed. Enlarged, Im not so sure about. I dont have a fish fetish so Im not sure how big or small its supposed to be.

Bugger, she's my favorite fish too.

That fine then.
Platys I think only live to about 2 years so it could just be old age.

Poor fishy. :-(

Thanks for your help tho.

If she goes downhill anymore I would end her misery, not nice I know.

I know, I'll give her another day or so and see if she gets worse. Cheers.

A little bit of an update...

She's not as bent over now as she was in the pic and when she swims forward, she straightens her back. Its only when she stops that she starts to lean in to one side. Also she can turn to the other side, not fully but a lot better than she was yesterday.

Could it be that shes been attacked by another fish and suffered an injured side?

Just hope that she gets well bless her.
It could be an injury, do any of your fish not get along.

Ive got two angel fish that sometime swim at/nip the other fish but not very often.

Angels don't tend to get on fish with long flowing fins as they will nip at them.
How many gallons is the tank.

60

The angel fish generally dont bother the other fish but occasionally they do nip.

Is that a 60 litre, or 60 gallons tank.
