Barbs + Simease Fighters

Siamese. :p

Veiltails will probably get their fins nipped a lot, esp. with tigers and rosies. I believe cherry barbs are more docile.

I would think that crowntails would also be fair game for barbs, though I am not 100% sure about that.

I'm sorry but I really have to say;

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" :hey:

I'm not experienced with betta's but I do know barbs. Tigers will give a betta hell. Forever. Period. Rosies are more peaceful, but can still have their moments. Cherry's are totally psycho, they prefer to be left alone and if they see anything that they percieve as a threat they WILL go for it; Big time.

ALL fish have their individual personalities. I've had (and still have) some very placid and happy tiger barbs, whilst others are total loonies. I have platies and zebra danios who harrass the tigers, but then some of the tigers go for the danios and platies. So it's all a bit of a mix, fun to watch and no-one gets hurt.

But to put long finned betta in there....? I'd give him 15 mins before he was knackered!

Sooo... cherries may well be OK but one day you may wake up to find some smug looking barbs and a sad (and shredded) betta.

just my opinion :)

Ive got a few chequar barbs and a couple of red banded barbs with a male beta.......with no probs, but both species of barbs are small and peaceful.
Definately not tiger barbs or cherry's etc.
Also I would have said tank size matters, Ive got a 40uk gallon tank thats fairly heavlily planted with lots of hiding places

Your betta will more than likely stalk and flare at the fish, too. Mixing bettas is never a good idea. I've tried it many times with many different mixes and it never works.

Good luck. I hope you can prove me wrong. If so, let me know.

I've get a three year old Betta in a tank with neons, danio roseus, pentazona barbs, flame tetras, corys, Y sidthimunki & bristlenoses.
No agro, nipping or problems - the tank is 160 litre & moderately planted.
Another Betta male I have has to be kept alone so he has 45 litres to himself.
With the exception of Dilbert the loner I've never had problems with Bettas in community tanks (over 40 odd years including breeding Bettas) but the tanks have always been 3' plus & the tankmates chosen with care & in good sized groups in the case of shoaling fish.
Putting an ill conditioned Betta that has been living in a small container into a large tank is a risk and they do need to train for the swimming they need to do.
A fit, well finned, male patrolling a large planted tank is a joy to watch.
