Ramesses....King of Egyptian pharoahs.
My question is about bamboos and whether or not is OK to introduce to a fish tank.
I ask this question 'cause any place you go nowdays, you'd find bamboo for sale including my LFS's.
I know they can survive surmerged for a period of time, but will they eventually rot and die?And.......What kind of special care if any they require.

Thank you guys.......... :D

What is usually sold as "bamboo" or "lucky bamboo" in stores lately is actually a species of Dracaena (usually Dracaena sanderiana), not really a bamboo at all. They adapt well to aquaculture and can tolerate having their roots and part of the stem submersed indefinitely, but the leaves need to be in open air. They will grow in somewhat spindly fashion this way, not as robust as when grown in a soil type mixture. They will not survive long term completely submersed. I personally feel that there are much better choices out there for fishtanks, such as the wide array of true aquatics which are available.

Hows about sticking the base of the plant in a HOB filter and letting the roots take nitrates and such from the water that way?
i'm doing this in one of my tanks, just to see what happens... i'd imagine the fishy water would be very nutrient rich for the plants too;)
