I recently have switched my tank from saltwater to freshwater because it was getting too expensive. Anyways i know in saltwater, the bacteria can live in live rocks for better filtration. How about in Freshwater? where can the bacteria live besides the bio wheels that i got. BTW my tank is 110 Gal with 2 Pengiun 350 that makes 4 wheels. But yah, what else can i put in my tank to have better filtration?

I dont think freshwater needs the same filtration as a SW tank would. 4 boiwheels seems more than good, and if you want more filtration and dont mind the look, sponge filters offer a good surface for bacteria, theyre just unsightly. I would have probably gone for a cannister filter rather than biowheels for a tank that size, becuase they offer very good filtration because of the sheer mass of media, and you could even go as far as hooking a sump up to them and filling that up with media aswell. However, im pretty sure your filtration is good, but wait for other replys.

I've been told to reply by the previous poster, the ickle one :)

Anyway, anything can have bacteria live on it, but higher surface area things like filter media is better, also the more flow over the area the more oxygen the bacteria get. So filters are the best place in FW for bacteria. If you could setup a sump and/or trickle tower great, otherwise a cannister filter can be used for good biological filtration. Then internal filters full of sponges etc. and HOBs.
