Hi there.
Only my 3rd post, so I thought I would post in the new to hobby section.
I've just got my first tank (Eclipse Hex 5) cycling, and plan to have a betta in it.
It's set up on my son's dresser, the only spot in his room to put the tank.
I just realized that this puts it in front of a mirror. I don't want to freak
the betta out, so I was thinking of a background to put on the back (back 3 panels?)
of the tank.
Just wondering if anyone else has put a background on a Hex tank, and how they put it
on (any probs with the facets of the tank), or what kind of background they used?

Thanks!

Fablon ----- works perfectly - sticky
black card cut to shape and glued or taped on outside
using black will show up the colour of the betta when you look in the tank

Looks like there isn't any black Fablon in Canada or mactac sheets big enough (that are not too pricey) around here.
Might have to go with the card stock or cut panels of the vinyl backgrounds at the LFS.
Black would be nice (and will be using it on MY tank, once it gets set up....)
but probably go with blue or foliage, as it's an Elmo's World themed tank. Trying to keep it bright and
cheery.
Thanks for the quick response!

i have a hex tank and hav just normal background on one side. but i guess for a betta 3 sides would be best if its in front of a mirror

I put black paper on the back of my bettas tank and he kept on flaring. I've heard that mirrors are partly made of glass and black paint?!?!?

I use regular backing on all of my tanks. I NEVER tape them down. What I do is this.

Take petroleum jelly and cover the back of the tank completely with a good dose of it. Make sure you don't miss any spots. Take you background and place it up on the jelly. Take a flat spatula or paint scrapper and flatten out all of the air in between the backing and the tank. The background should adhere to the tank and it will look much much better than just laying it up there an taping. This does take some work but it looks FANTASTIC!

Your going to want to cover all of the back sides and you can do it with one sheet, no need to cut with this method.
