Hi everyone! I'm finally back on the forum. I was banned in 2021 for being underage but was finally allowed back at the end of 2022. I didn't go on the forum much because I didn't have much questions. I'm now legally allowed on the forum, and I have some questions. I recently rescaped a 15g into a river style low tech planted tank with cosmetic sand. I cycled it with a sponge filter from another aquarium. It's been running for about 3 weeks now. I originally planned to add some shrimp and small fish, but I've got a fish I found in an abandoned pond, and so I've added it to my 15g because I've kept it in a 15g storage box where I can't really see him. My problem is, it's a Javaen Barb, and I can't find any information on fishkeeping on it anywhere such as bioload and minimum tank size. It is actually a fish native to my area. He's a pretty shy fish, and swims to the back of the tank when people come close. He also keeps swimming at the black background of the tank and I'm not sure why? He swims at it as if attacking it, I'll send a video. I think he needs a bigger tank, I found him in a pretty big pond. He's around 3 inches, which is pretty big. He also keeps eating my plants in the tank, and I'm not sure why? My question is, I want to add shrimp and I'm scared he might eat them. I'm planning to get cherry shrimp or amanos. Will he eat other small fish? I plan to get a few but not sure if it will be too much bioload. Tank has 2 sponge filters and a small filter just for current. Should I put him back in the 15g storage and go ahead with my original plans? I plan to get a bigger tank in the future (50-75g) but I'll have to save up money and I'll probably only get one in a few months. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Welcome back! It sounds to me like that fish is already too big for your tank, and if it is a Java barb (Barbonymus gonionotus), they get up to 30 cm. It is acting strangely because it is a schooling species, and it is feeling nervous and aggressive because it needs some friends. But of course, a group would require an even bigger tank. I recommend finding a new home for it immediately. I hate to see such a beautiful tank get destroyed! :)
