Aragonite Sand.... In Freshwater Tank? :s

Looking to purchase a used 55 gallon tank that had previously been outfitted for saltwater fish. I intend to convert it to fresh water. The tank comes with Aragonite sand. I have zero experience with saltwater fish and have never heard of aragonite sand. If I rinse this out, can it be used in a freshwater setup? It'd save me a significant amount of cash.

Hey hon I had the same with coral sand, aragonite will buffer and raise your PH so might not be suitable depending on the occupants that you are after. Other things can help to bring the PH down again but it would bre risky.

Best solution? Buy 20kg bags of sand at your local Argos for £3 each, make sure you have a car! (Boy lugging one bag was enough on the bus) but the quality is smooth and it has worked well in my aquarium. Another recommended product is Dorset Pea Gravel which you can get at your LFS or such places as Homebase. And one last thing! Sell the aragonite on as plenty will be after it and you can gain a little cashback. (My coral tried to sell but because live far south and couldnt drive it got stuck with me) but it is another option

Do you happen to know what the Aragonite sand would sell for?
