Hi, I've recently moved to South Shields (Newcastle upon tyne) from the South East and i want to know if anyone can reccommed any good aquatic shops in the area? I have looked on the pinned link to Uk fish stores directory in this forum, but Lincolnshire is about as far north as they go in the north east section which is about 3hrs away!!

Thanks.

Fish alive in durham is very very good.

Whatever you do, don't go to dobbies garden centre, dieing, dead and sick fish there.

Hi,

I've just started with a fw tank, hence I read this forum every day, trying to learn and not kill anything in the process.

I visited this shop the other day http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/...ne%20And%20Wear

Good selection of fish, seemed knowledgable and helpful.

All the fish looked in good health and the tanks were spotless

It's about 20min from your place, through the tunnel

The pinned topic on UK fish stores is actually 14 pages long. If you can find the time to read right through it you should find some stores in your area. When I first looked at it I thought that NE only went up to Lincolnshire - not much use as I live in Teesside - but then I realised just how many pages there were and there are quite a few stores listed for my area.

you know where harton village is?
two shops there ones good for food and plecs and hell order any fish you want :good:
the others good for the basics and equipment/treatment

theres another one down the john reid road called monument aquatics these are great for marine and tanks and frozen/live food

theres another one in (i think) gosforth but thats a garden center and ive only been there once

[edit] theres another one at westoe but i havent been in there at all
theres one in sunderland called mike skinner tiny shop hidden away so youll probs need directions (yell.com) hes good for more unusual species ill edit in directions to the shop

I have just had another look and you're right there are lots of pages - i obviously didn't look properly. I'll have to find some time when my boss isn't around to go through them all!!!

Hi there. The two shops i use most regularly are north east aquatics near harton village, and monument aquatics which is a little way out, near the B&Q warehouse at the top end of the A194(M) in washington. Both of these shops are good for most community fish, monument does have a few more interesting fish sometimes such as apistogrammas and some more tricky corydoras catfish. The other shop in harton vilage that was mentioned is good if you like big predatory fish and tankbusters. He has some huge giant gourami, aligator gars and red tailed catfish. Worth a look even if you don't want to get any as they are really quite impressive.

In the town centre is a shop that was called haswells, can't remember what it's changed to now, but they sell just coldwater fish, but their dry goods are quite cheap.

Another shop if you can find it in gateshead is the little pet shop, he has alot of good community fish. Also some very good oscars too. He has a breeding pair of oscars in the shop at the moment and the babies are excellent!

Welcome to South Shields anyway, hope it isn't to cold for you after the tropical south! :p
