Aquarium Turtles

Hi, i'm interested in keeping aquarium turtles. Does anybody have any advice in keeping them i.e. what is needed and how large they grow? I've seen them at my lfs but they cant give me much advice.
Also, what fish are they compatable with?

if they cant advise you on them, they should not sell them. poor LFS standards. i would find a new one.

never kept them myself tho.

i am not an expert on turtles but u shouldn't listen to them at the petstore anyway...my cousin has a musk turtle a.k.a stinkpot but i would say ur at the wrong site...i would try turtleforums or turtletimes

Are you talking about the 2 inch terrapins you see in some stores?
If so these quickly turn into large terrapins the size of dinner plates. They carry salmoella and are very dirty and smelly. You will need a 4 foot tank eventually, a sun bathing area with a basking lamp and a very good filter.
ive kept them in the past and though different from fish arent that nice a pet to keep imo.
Id be glad to see them never to be sold in pet shops as people get sick of them and abandon them either into lakes or sanctuaries.
