Hi guys, i have an Aqua One tank, the model is the Aquamode 600. Does anyone have any experience with these tanks/filters?

What I want to know is:

1. Can i remove the top carbon filter and replace with another black sponge? Isnt carbon better to just be used to remove meds?

2. On the pipe which leads from the filter to the tank, is it meant to touch the bottom of the tank as mine does?

I am considereing chaning to an external filter.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

Sa,

Sa,

Hi Sa, my mum has the same tank as you and her filter pipe also touches the gravel and she was told this was meant to do this. I personally have the Aqua One 620T and the extra few inches means the pipe is suspended a few inches higher. I guess they are a standard length and used in both tanks. I must admit that I keep the carbon in mine all the time, except when I'm using meds. I've heard that keeping carbon in reduces the efficiency of plant fertilisers so I was going to ask on here myself whether to remove the carbon on a day to day basis or whether to add it. An article in PFK (I may have interpreted it wrong) said that old carbon can actually return toxins back to the tank.

If you are keeping the Carbon in the tank contantly I believe that you need to change it eevry month.

Yes that's what I've been doing since I set the tank up early last year. Having said that, I've just read another post here in this forum and I'm considering taking it out altogether now (unless I need it to remove meds) because I have a tank full of live plants.
