I have 2 golden apple snails and they are nice and big but every time i put my plastic breeder in the tank for my pregnant female they climb into it and tip the breeder so that the fish swim out!!!!! i cant have a net breeder as the way my tank lid is designed makes this impossible is there any way i could put them off climbing into the breeder?
I don't want to get rid of my snails as they are very pretty and i love to watch them but they also let fry out into my tank and its hard to catch the little ones again lol

best idea is not to use a breeder. use a breeding tank. you will need one anywase. usauly in livebearers you will get an average fry count of 50-100. thats way to many for a "main" tank unless its 100g or so. so you will need seperate tanks for them anywase. best idea is to get a 20g min. tank for the fry, put the female in there so she has her fry in there, then take her out when she is done.

breeding boxes and nets also cause pregnent fish to abort and kill the fry. i dont use one anymore and never will.

i already have a breeder tank with guppy fry in which are quiet small and i didn't want to put the mollie in there as she may eat them, but i suppose i could put them in the breeder while she is in the breeder tank so she can't get to them.
i just thought it may be more stressful for the female to be put into another tank than to be put into a breeder, but will move my little guppies tomorrow and put her in.

You could always get a net breeder and attack pieces of styrofoam to it so it'd float.

Lol so funny.
You can buy plastic breeders with lids.

have never seen one with a lid with in leicestershire but i will have a look at the net breeder and see if my husband can alter it for our tank, we have a flat glass lip all the way round the tank and another glass lip at a right angle so thats why its hard to put the net breeder in, but will see if we can float one. hopefully the apple snails will not be able to climb into it lol

i suppose i could do its just that they are in my main tank and the breeder tank is in my brothers bedroom so i would not see them lol, i suppose i could put them in there while my female is pregnant then put them back!
i would not have a problem if there were not such big snails lol there tip the whole breeder !!
