anyone know anythin bout congo tetra's???

ive got 3 and 2 of them are always with eachother.....the same 1 sort of chases the other...but not aggresively.....im wondering if theyre flirting and ready to breed

If they are breeding you are very lucky but I don't think they are, they are scatterers so see if you can see any sticky stuff on the tanks substrate, I have found that when you keep three of a shoaling species one does tend to be left out. It is really rare for congos to breed in tanks, so let us know if anything occurs

what's happening to ur cardianal tetras? any updates? and i personally do not think thay r ready to breed because it is like what flipin said, it is really rare for them to breed :D but good luck :p

KEv  B)

I have breed mine but what you describe as breeding behaviour could just be normal shoaling behaviour, mine chase each other all the time. They usually breed early in the morning and when in the mood the males dorsal fin takes on a redish colour, also if they are breeding you will see the tiny 1mm white eggs dropping from the female.Unfortunatly they also eat their own eggs so for a successful spawn they need to be removed to a seperate tank that has shallow (no more than 4") water. If successful raise the fry on small live foods.

they're sort of rubbing up against each other n doin flips n stuff......just seems odd......n the males dorsal fin is always up......dunno if that means anythin like hahahahaha

would be well good if they were breedin but im not sure they are.........they sort of curl up into balls as theyre swimmin next to eachother.....very strange......n ive noticed that the colours are really strong.......they were like a dull silver colour up until about 4 days ago and now they got really bright blue yellow n red lines down their sides

seems like im the only 1 who hasnt got fish that are breeding :-(

hahahahaha

Is the tank recieving any sunlight?Light plays a big factor in congo tetras spawning rituals and with the bright summer mornings it could be that they are getting fruity. If this is the case feed them lots of live food for a week or two and start doing 20% daily water changes until you see the females droping eggs.

yeah.....ive started opening my blinds of a morning a few days ago.....and then they started playing.......strange...lol
