I have placed peat granules (by Ehime) into my cannister filter and also in the tank (in a mesh bag). I am expecting the water to turn a tinge darker but I cannot see any real difference. How long will it take for the peat to release its colour etc into the water? Peat has been in the filter for 2 days now and I added the lot into the tank last night. The amount I have used is 1 litre and the tank is a bit over 200 litres.
Granted that on the packet I should have 2 litres of peat for a tank of its size but there is no space for that much but I should see the water darken slightly??
The aim is to soften the water and also make it slightly more acidic. Hoping it will have an impact on the plants as well.
