It should be a spotted gar , just wanted to see what you guy's think.

It's eating pellets which is awsome too :)

probably a florida, only ones we get in the uk as well as gators and i believe cubans have been impoted once.

the spotted gar wildwoods have on there site isn't even a true gar, floridas are fantastic fish anyway, they come in a range of patterns only difference from spotteds is size. Mine is a florida and its one of the best fish i've ever owned.

Oh yeh so it is, had a quick look on there site now and noticed that! I wasn't fussed if it was spotted or Florida, for £20 i would have had either :)

I think your best bet for a big gar is either essex aquatics which get the 10" ones in sometimes for £30ish or wharf aquatics sometimes get mahoosive ones like 18"+

Essex aquatics do have some intresting stocking but after Dave_oddballs had all his problems with the rays from there it's put me off. I'll email wharf aquatics and see if they can drop me an email if they get any in.

Hoping to get a Merodontotus tigrinus if Tropical Imports is still kicking about and add a few more bichir's to my collection in the next few months.

I've ordered from essex aquatics before and had no problems, i wouldn't order something sensetive like rays but i can't see a problem with gars.

Ive just got a 7" one from my local shop, he always says he will keep an eye out for decent fish for me when he's there and always pulls a few crackers. £5 for what looks like a 7" Florida I think. I just need to fatten him up now.

Just tried mine with some brown crickets and some dried mealworms, didnt seem interested. Only just gone in though. I'm actually pretty sure its a false Gar now, some sort of Needlefish, it is Identical to yours but the tail fin is rounded and all in one, there's no split in it. Cant find a positive I.D. from anywhere I've looked so far though.

Hopefully this site doesnt mind me linking elsewhere:

Cheers m8, I was actually searching through all the links from MFK as you posted them. Just found the Juvenile one which looks good. Near impossible though, I am thinking this is too silver, and its black horizontal line is too strong for it to be a true Gar.

Mine are now eating hikari floating sticks. It's mentle as the sticks are about a 1/3rd of the size of the gars!
