Sometimes my Zebra angelfishes stripes fade seem to fade so they blend in with his body, and then sometimes get darker..

is this normal?

cichlids will intensify their colors when they feel threatened or during mating. a loss of color is sometimes a sign of stress. is the fish otherwise healthy? what size tank is it in and what are the tankmates?

i think it is being bullied a bit by the other angelfish although they are both new in the tank so hopefully it will sort itself out

Its fin was torn the other day but seems to have healed now

What kind of decoration have you in your tank? Similar like in nature? Stripes are for covering/masking: There, where angles live are lots of roots etc. Those stripes works well in this place. If you put your angel into a tank, that is just plain, angel don't need those stripes to hide, because there isn't anything natural (alot of roots ect.).

no there isnt really any roots just a few plants and decorations

Angels stripes fade and darken depending on their moods. Mine all get darker during spawning and feeding times and just when their feeling frisky. Most times when I first turn the lights on the causes a little stress and their markings will fade dramatically.
