Hi, I have just got rid of 4 huge blood parrots which were given to me with the tank a year ago, leaving me with 4 gouramis (2 blue, 1 pearl, 1 moonlight) a pleco and a bronze cory. I'd like to add angelfish into the equasion but there seems to be differing views on wether gouramis and angels mix well. Hubby also fancies clown loaches, so we were thinking 2 of each, if they'll be ok together. Also, we lost a cory when the tank was moved a year ago and I've wanted to replace him as company for 'kitkat' ever since.. would this be ok? Does anyone have any advice? I have a 40 gallon tank.

I had a Gourami and an Angelfish seemed fine together for a few days but my Gourami then was relentlessely fin nipping the angel....I returned the Gourami.

I had clown loaches sadly they perished due to White spot (very common with loaches it seems)
Clown Loaches should be fine with Angels and the majority of non-cichlid fish. I am most likely wrong however

40 gallons seems a bit small for adding yet more territorial fish, if you see what I mean. Clown loaches need to be in bigger groups than pairs, and grow surprisingly big, so a 40 gal won't do them. I would up the number of corys instead to at least 3 (the more the merried), you will get much more fun out of it that way- and it will have more fun. Lovely fish, can't have too many corys IMO.
What kind is your plec? If it is a common or a sailfin, it will outgrow your tank.

I introduced a breeding pair of angels to an 8 yr old opaline gourami, he's been fine ever since. When the angels were spawning, the male [who has recently died] would occassionaly chase away the gourami, but no damage was done. Now it's just one angel and a gourami, and they get along fine, they seem to really like each other, the gourami has never chased either of the angels, and the remaining angel doesn't bother the gourami either.

Obviously this won't be true for all circumstances, but it can be done!

OK, so we'll leave the clowns and get a couple more corys... any idea about adding a couple of angels?
