 Can anyone tell me if there is a good way of telling whether an angel is male or female. I bought two about six weeks ago but don't know what sex they are.
Much appreciated
Kev.

I thought so cuz i cant see any differences between them, but then again they could be the same sex anyway in which case i wouldn't.
What about the pronounced hump I've seen in some pics in front of some angels dorsal, does this signify a male?

Yes, a lot of angelfish males do have the hump, but some females have been known to have a hump that is just as big or even bigger than those of known males.

It's a toss up! ...but, if you have a tank full of angelfish and one of them has a hump that is bigger than all others... it might be safe to assume that the one with a hump is male.

All the best!

i have found that you can only spot the difference after a year

The way i tell is if you look between the mouth and the anal fin if there is a littleish pimple halfway it's a female and if there is nothing it's male.

I'm sure this is the way of doing it and it's got me two breeding pairs ,,,but i may have been just lucky!
