Hi all,

I have recently setup a planted tank and have added 4 small Angelfish (atm). I am wanting to add some more fish and would like Harlequin Rasboras, but I'm unsure if they will get eaten by the Angels... Are they good tank mates?

Thanks in advance!

Don't quote me on it but I'm sure I've read on this forum before that harlequins are ok with angels as the harlequins have a different shaped body to most tetras and tend to get slightly larger.

Hopefully somebody will come along to advise you from personal experience.

Andy

Yeah, I'd hate to put some in and they get munch-a-de-crunched!

Also are Angels ok with shrimp?

I wouldn't risk it, but I've also never had inverts. It just sounds like a bad idea. But yea, dont quote me, just a guess.

I've got 10 harlequins in with 2 angels in a reasonably planted 60g tank and do not have a problem.

I've thought about cherry shrimp as well, haven't tried but the research I've done suggests an expensive snack more often than not.

I had riffle shrimp in with my angels for a few yrs (now shrimp are in a different tank) the adults were no probs, but any smaller young ones, the angels would eat them if they could catch them.

I have cherry barbs in with my angels, the angels do not attempt to eat them. And their gorgeous cherry red looks great against the plants

Did you actually reply to tell me that you have no knowlegde or personal experience, but you think that it sounds like a bad idea???

I can't have shrimp with Angelfish?! Gutted!! I don't like the sound of that (as I really want them) so I'll go for a second opinion! :good: ;)

You cant have small shrimp with angelfish, the adult riffles weren't bothered by the angels at all. So you can have shrimp, just not the small type ones :)

So it'll depend on the size of the shrimp and the size of the Angel? I'll probably be better off getting full grown shrimp while the Angels are still small/young.

my large angels munched their way through about 50 cherry shrimp, 4 amano shrimps and a 3 inch rock shrimp within a few days...... nothing touched them before adding the angels then all of a sudden they are all gone! except the odd 1 i see now and then but not seen any for a while now.........

Yep.

The riffle shrimp used to come out and feed beside the angels, was cool to watch. My large angels made no move to try to eat them, just ignored them really *L*

Well, judging by the other, more informed posts, my gut-feeling was correct. But live shrimp tend to look like the frozen ones you feed cichlids, so I made a seemingly logical, and now confirmed plausible-from-experience, guess. Maybe you can learn to make such logical conclusions yourself.
