How can you tell the difference between male and female on the angel fish?

hard to tell when they are small but females tend to have a smooth forehead where as the males will tend to have a bump on it.

darn, that sucks because what if I want babies. Be my luck I would get all females or all males.

You have a couple options. You could buy a proven pair, but that can be kinda spendy... and then you have to worry about what to do with all the fry! If you have stores in the area that'll take them off your hands, you're set. The other option is to buy 6 juveniles and let them pair up on their own. Chances are good that you'd get at least one pair from 6 juvies. The pair would most likely want to be in a tank of their own, so you'd have to figure out new homes for the others.

Good luck!! :)

now, another question, how do you know when they are mating or that they even like each other.

Wait and see if the male buys flowers.
If so, watch for the females reaction. She will:
a- Bat her eyelids
b- Slap the male with her tail
c- Run off and smooch another angelfish (this one may be male or female)

Good luck :)

the helium is working well! :D

Actually there are ways that you can make a pretty good guess, Males have a V shaped throat while females are more rounded, Males form a very very slight hump on there heads, males are generally more aggressive, and will grow faster.
