Hi guys

I've been keeping fish for over 10 years now and have recently started what I hope will be an angel fish breeding program. Started with a cycled 50 gallon tall tank 48l x 15w x 18h which had been running for 2 years with sajica cichlids grown from fry. I moved the sajicas into my 350 litre corner tank where they seem very happy.

Purchased 4 baby angels the same day and acclimatised them as usual. One died a week later but my water stats were fine and I always do my water changes.

Anyway, the three remaining angels have been fine now for three weeks but only one is growing. He/she has doubled in size already. the other two don't seem to eat. Has anyone kept angels from babies who can give some welcome advice please?

I am feeding them on small tetra flake am and baby brine shrimp pm. Filters are 1 eheim ecco external and 1 large sponge filter. Plenty of sword fern and cabomba established in the tank.

Thanks in advance.

How big are your water changes and what's your nitrate level?

Oh, and what type of angel are they?

I do 25% water changes weekly. My nitrate levels are around 30 same as our tap water. Ph is a bit high at 8 but we are in a chalky area for water. I have 1 adult angel in a different tank who's been with me for over a year now. The new ones are koi angels, silvery orange.

I would definitely up your water changes, to at least 50% weekly.

A lot of fish excrete hormones into the water that stunt their growth, once they reach a certain concentration, so large water changes are essential for growing fish.
