Hi, ive got 2 female angel fish that are around three years old and have been together since they where babies. they have recently just started fighting and they seem to be getting worse especially when they are laying eggs (they dont bother the other fish and they dont fight when you feed them either), they are both around 9cm long and in a 50 litre tank with 2 rosy barbs a sailfin mollie and a hoplos cat fish, what i want to know is if this is normal behaviour or should i separate them?

The tank is too small for angel fish so they will fight as they are territorial. The tank is around 15g right?

10 gallon and you would lose about a gal with gravel and plants so yeah a 9gal tank is way to small for fish like that

Angels need more water than that so best to either upgrade to a 30 gallon minimum or sell them both back to the store.

my fat fish your sig is too long. Its 5 lines of text and your stocking list should be in your profile :)

wasn't sure but thought it might have been as ive only just been given them like last couple of months and put them in that tank as they were in a smaller one unfortunately  on the possitive side tho ive have been offered a jewel 400 so looks like they'll be getting a bigger tank anyway. do you think that would ease the tension? or would you recommend still getting rid of one?

Put them in the 400 and see how it goes. You might get a bit of fighting to begin with but each should be able to take her own territory.
Have you seen both of them laying eggs?

If you ever wanted to breed them then a male will pick which female to breed with and then it would be wise to re home the other

Until you get a larger tank, which is what is needed, you should set up a divider. Keep one handy for the new tank as well, anyone dealing with cichlids should have one.

Yea i've seen them both laying eggs but what is really strange since my last post is that they are both gaurding the eggs from the other fish and airating (<----spelt right?) them which they havent done before which seems very strange as they usually just got eaten, they have also stopped fighting. I will try them with the bigger tank and see what happens like you said before they are a bit crowded. thanks for the advise.

They will probably stop fighting now that they have paired up, female angels will form a pair bond when there is no male around. You will probably have a new problem now with them both chasing every other tank mate relentlessly. Watch out for the other fish.
Adult angels do need a lot of room.
