I added 4 angel fish to my community tank last weekend. Shortly after adding them 2 of them went up to one of my ottos and appeared to be harrassing it (didn't actually touch it though). The otto promptly went crackers and swam around the tank at an alarming rate then it's swim bladder seemed to pack up, couldn't seem to get it balance in the water, then it died. Is this normal? Up until this both the ottos in this tank were doing fine. Can angels and ottos not be kept together? Could this be just a fluke? I have moved the angelfish to my other tank for the time being so the remaining otto is on it's own. I have ordered another 5 ottos and wanted to keep the angels in this tank. Any advice appreciated.

im not totally sure, but i have sucessfully kept ottosand angels in the same tank, if you have large angels they may have been harrasing the ottos because they are so small .

I have an Angel in my Vision 180 and added three Ottos recently to help deal with a brown algae problem.

Certainly, my Angel seemed to find the Ottos annoying at first. The Ottos were doggedly taking up the brown algae from the leaves, and the Angel would try to flick them off. After about six goes he would take a nip, and the Otto would move away to another leaf. My Ottos didn't seemed too concerned by this (brave chaps!), nor did the Angel get too agitated either.

After a day or two, the Angel just leaves the Ottos alone now. So all is peaceful again in the tank.

I wouldn't keep angels with Otocinclus. I've seen Otocinclus attack the bodies of slow moving, larger, fish to eat the mucous. Specifically, a large goby (Awaous flavus). They did significant damage, causing nasty blisters. I now only keep Otocinclus with small fish, such as tetras, that aren't a temptation.

Cheers,

Neale

the otto most likely got stressed from seeing the angel because it was obviously weak but i would of thought that the ottos would be harrasing the angels because most plecos go for the slime on angels and discus
