I lost one of my stripy angels this morning and have no idea why? I have had him about a year (came with 4 others all were sick and lost the other 3 over 4 days this one survived but his dorsal fin was bent and shorter than normal). I tested the water and my water states are all fine. I have not added any ornaments, plants or fish for ages. All other fish look fine apart from one red eye tetra with a mark on his side (couple of scales missing), but I think that was from squabbling with another tetra.

He came up to top for food as normal and was eating fine (flake) then he suddenly turned to come back for more food and seemed to shake for a couple of seconds then just stopped swimming? by the time he hit the bottom he was dead!! no marks, lesions or anything on the body???

Can fish have heart attacks? It sounds like a heart attack...but I don;t know if fish can have those...

I must admit that was my first though that it had a heart attack or something.

Bless Him. R.I.P.

How many gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

How old was the fish.
Did he look skinny or bloated.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.

How many gallons or litres. 300L
How many fish and which type.3 angels, 5 gourami (2 opaline, 2 gold 1 pearl), 3 cory, 2 pictus, 4 red eye tetra, 2 rams, 1 krib
Water stats in ammonia 0ppm, nitrite, 0ppm nitrate -20, and ph about 7.4

How old was the fish. I had him just about a year, he was about 2" (top of fin to bottom of fin) when I got him and about 4" top to bottom fin when he died.
Did he look skinny or bloated. neither, little chubby maybe (he was a greedy fish) the only thing was his slightly deformed top fin being bent over a bit, but he always had that.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing. No liked to hide under bogwood the last week or so? just the shuddering for a few seconds before he died.

Kept an eye on all the others today, no signs of any flicking rubbing or anything else abnoral with anyone else?

Forgot to ask temp of tank.

To be honest not sure what caused his death.

Temp is around 27 but I think its irrelivent really, I am guessing it was just him time, :-( or maybe some sort of heart attack as he was rather a greedy fish?, least he died happy stuffing himself.

Thanks anyway for answering me.

Bless him.
Sorry I can't give you the answer you want to know.
Good Luck.

i'm sure any animal/species/fish etc can have heart attack or fits.

surely if it has a brain/heart it can have neurological / heart issues the same as anyone else

am really sorry you had to see that
