I have 4 Giant Danios in my 30 Gallon. In the mornings usually, but not always, they split into pairs and race around the tank, nudging and splashing against the top of the water, is this some type of "play" behavior? Or are they really going at each other. Theres no damage that I can see done to their scales. But like I said they race one another down the tank and back, right up against each other. Is this some kind of breeding behavior? Or am I witnessing 4 males attack each other?

Thanks

My neons do this too in the mornings. I think it's just something about the lights being on and making them excited for their first meal or something. I hadn't noticed it either until a few days ago and the behaviour was similar. I wouldn't at all be worried about it if their are no signs or trouble or the fish having nipped fins or bad scales... They're probably just playing around

Danios spend a lot of time on hierarchical play, deciding who is top dog. This is nothing to worry about, as long as the school is big enough to spread aggression around. Ideally, one should keep rather larger groups, but you are probably restricted by tank space. Keep an eye on them to make sure nobody is getting hurt all the time. The tank is on the small side for them.

my mom's giant danios do this too. they're always swimming rapidly around each other and sort of dancing like. i think they just never stop moving!
