Fish Crazy
I set my 95L tank up 5 weeks ago. Totally new to the world of tropical fishkeeping I stupidly followed my dad's advice (a former 100l tank fishkeeper) rather than research it all myself and ask more in depth questions from my LFS. It's amazing how much Dad seems to have forgotton in the past 20 years!
So as per Dad's advice, I set up my tank and live plants and the following week added 6 platies. 7 days later I added 6 Neon Tetras. 14 days later I added 2 German rams and 2 Corydoras. Now, I know that I'm slightly overstocked (I discovered the inch to the gallon rule a bit too late) but all my fish look happy and healthy. Besides, my LFS told me that I could keep up to 25 small fish in my tank. Don't worry, I have no intention of doing that but it's weird how much contradictory info you're given as a newbie.
I've done 25% water changes alongside a good gravel vac every week. I've measured my water levels meticulously over the 5 weeks and have seen my amonia level rise and fall followed by a progressive rise in nitrites. Today I have tested and the my nitrite level has fallen to 0 and my nitrates have gone from 40 to 10. I consider it an absolute blessing that I still have 17 healthy fish desipite only really learning about the cycling process on here when I already had a sizeable fish stock. Anyway, after all this background, what I'm really wanting to ask is whether you think that I'm finally cycled?
Thanks!
