i usually get 0 for ammonia, but i just tested for ammonia in my 10 gallon tank today and it reads 0.12ppm. i can think of 2 possible causes:

1. decaying food stuck to filter
2. new polyresin ornament

which one(s) do you think is the cause?

How long has the tank been set up and what is its stocking as well as how did you go about cycling it in the first place? How do you go about cleaning the tank and how often (in detail please)?

here we go...

tank's been set up for over a year. for stocking, look at my sig. it's cycled. i just rinse the filter cartridge in old tank water and change 25% of the water twice a week. it's a bare bottom tank.

so as i said, the problem doesn't lie there. it's either the decaying food stuck on the intake tube or the new ornament.

Have you changed any of your filters?

What are the stats of your tap water BEFORE adding to tank?

Could well be a faulty test reading... If the fish aren't affected, I wouldn't worry. And 0.12 is an odd reading.

well, i use the api test kit and the reading was between 0 and 0.25ppm, so i call it 0.12 ppm.
