ok i put my ammonia levels to 8ppm because im fishless cycling and it went to 0 ppm in about a week, waited for the nitrites to drop and they did and there wasnt a a big spike of nitrates, so i was like ok, and then i went on vacation and my brother added and added ammonia to keep the bacteria alive, and when i came back he added a little to much ammonia so i took some out,but before i took some water out i took a nitrite and nitrates test and there was 0 nitrites and 10ppm nitrates any1 know why there wasnt a big spike, not heavilly planted, almost postitive its completly cycled because i put 2ppm of ammonia and went back to 0(this was right before i went on vacation) and when it hit 0 i added more ammonia and went on vaca and my bro added ammonia while i was gone, so am i safe to get fish or should i double check and add some ammonia in to make sure or whats going on?

Your post is a little confusing. When you add ammonia to the correct amount does it drop to 0ppm within the specified time?

If you are confident you are cycled a water change wont have affected it, as long as you are cycled then adding fish is fine, just make sure you keep adding ammonia to keep the bacteria alive until you do buy fish other wise it will starve and die.

EDIT> Are you heavily planted?

I agree. The first post is very confusing. You probably woild have gotten more responses had it been written better. Particularly had you actually broken your thoughts up into separate sentences, because when it runs on like that it is very hard to understand what you mean. Also, expecting an answer in just over 80 minutes is a little obscene, while there are a lot of users on this forum there aren't people just sitting around waiting to answer your posts.

But, here is the real crux of the question: if you put a significant dose of ammonia into your tank, is the ammonia and nitrite completely gone in 24 hours or faster? If it is, then the tank can be considered cycled.
