I have been cycling my tank with ammonia for a week tomorrow (28/6) and the level is still at between 1 & 3 ppm

I dont have a bacteria source

Am I getting impatient or should i do something to kickstart the process? :fun:

Id say you have a long way to go yet :/
i have been at it for four weeks adding amonia as required the amonia has been going from about 4ppm to nothing in 24 hours for over a week, nearly two, nitrIte through the roof nitrAte the same as tap water  it seems a long slow process but im sure it will be worth it in the end, stick with it, i have some nice brown algee on everything, just waiting for nitrAte reminds me of being 6 waiting for christmas :fun:

me too, I'm waiting for Santa! Though I do have nitrates, just that the nitrites aren't ready to go away yet. Still, I have done this twice before, and it worked, so why shouldn't it work now?

I've been reading up on the bacteria stuff cause its hard to get here as well. If you can't get bacteria seeding from an established aquarium, then I believe a visit to your LFS to pick up a potted live plant might be in order. The roots apparently hold all the bacteria needed. If you don't want the plant itself, then cut the root off and stuff some of it into your filter for a day or so. That should give the cycle a kick in the pants to get going. You might want to re-seed in the middle of the Nitrite spike too, since the Nitirie bacteria from the first seeding may have died waiting around for the ammonia bacteria to get started.
