Alternatives To Reflectors

Is there any alternative to using reflectors? Would tin foil be sufficient?

i use mirrors and it works even better

Get a piece of 3" PVC rainwater pipe and slice it in half paint it white and screw a couple of light clips through the PVC and into the hood. A simple, cheap home made alternative reflector.

I also use mirrors and they do work pretty good.

50% of the light from a bulb is going in the wrong direction- ie away from the water. A good reflector not only redirects that wasted 50% back towards the tank, but if it is properly designed, it also minimizes restrike ( ir redirecting light back that then hits the bulb or fixture and doesnt make it to the water).

The best reflectors i have seen are the one at AH Supply.
