Alternative to Hagen sachets

I have one of the Hagen plastic CO2 canisters that hang on the ouside of my tank, that is fueled by 2 sachets of stuff provided with it and some added sugar. I originally got 3 sets of sachets and thats me on to the last set. I wondered if there was a homemade brew I could use in this canister instead - its difficult getting the replacement sachets in my lfs.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dried yeast and bicarbonate of soda. Simple and cheap. 1/4 teaspoon of yeast and 1 level tsp of bi-carb replicates the sachet quantities.

so is there still sugar involved in this recipe? thanks

Yes in all diy mixes you use sugar as the main ingredient, in the nutrafin cannisters there is a marking at the bottom of the cannister (like 4 fins jutting out) and you fill the sugar to this level.
