Does anyone else here have one of the jewel tanks with the new t5 lighting? If so, do you have the same algae problem I have?
I have the lights on 8 hours a day, do weekly ~20% water change, tank is lightly stocked, i dont overfeed (if anything i underfeed) and have a reasonable number of fast growing plants such as ergia and echinodermus, and yet the algae growth is incredible! In my previous tank I occasionally had small amounts of algae, but nothing on this scale! Every week the back, sides and some of the front glass is almost completely covered

Is there anything else I can do to fix this other than wiping it off and further reducing the lighting period?

Mag-floats for a quik fix, totaly blackout for a few days can help too :)

i read that a break in the lighting in mid-day helps. like 4 hours on, 2 hours off, then 4 hours on.

running a uv sterilizer also helps prevent algae outbreaks.
