Wanted to add and airstone to a rekord 120
Have read that these can cause damage to the tank and jewel recommend not using them
How likely is this?
Has anybody had this problem

i have actually heard this aswell, i dont know if its true or not.
just going to have a look on some sites, il report back soon ;)

I too am familiar with Juwel recommending not to use them. No other tank manufacturer recommends this as far as i am aware. I've never heard of air-stones causing any problems, especially not to the tank itself. Probably best to find out for sure first though. I suppose they must say that for a reason. :S

I've used airstones in my Juwel tanks and never had any problems, if thats of any comfort. :good:

i had a quick look and nothing even comes up remotely even making me think airstones doing anything to juwel aquariums.
i cant imagine it does damage to the tank but there must be a reason, maybe if anyone else has experience they could let us know, such as backtotropical.

They only cause damage if the bubbles enter the filter inlet, or possibly if any splashing they create reaches the lights (but don't worry too much about the second one).

Knowing Juwel, they are probably only saying this because a) They maybe plan on releasing their own pricey airpumps and stones for Juwel tanks or B ) since their filters break on their own so often, they wouldn't be able to deal with any more filter complaints due to badly placed air-stones.

I use one in my Juwel tank no problem, but I have a Fluval 305 rather than the Juwel filter :).

Thanks for the info chaps :)
Gotta say the people on here are far more helpful and knowledgable than the other forums i've tired :)
I'm itching to put one in but reading that has got me a bit woried :( would look nice but would probably get stressed constantly worrying about any damage it might cause

going on what three-fingers says, i understand it shouldnt be a problem if you keep the airstone away from the filter

Juwel say you don't need an airstone but if you have one to put in the centre of the tank. I have one in my Rio300 which has been there a year and it is all fine. HTH. They probably want you to buy the venturi kit instead! :)

I agree, i can not think of a reason to not have an air pump as long as the air does not go directly into the filter inlet, be interesting to see if they have a valid reason :)
