NEVER TRY TO SYPHON A BRINE SHRIMP TANK WITH A SMALL TUBE!

i was going to try to syphon out the eggs at the bottom with a small tube and i never really thought that when i sucked abck it would come in real fast!

it tasted SOOOO bad. it was salt water with algae disks, cloudy water (from flakes), and sand. and we can't forget that i probably got shrimp in my mouth too!! :-(

i have been spitting out water, using mouthwash and brushing my teeth for the last 20 minutes

I CAN"T BELIEVE I DID THAT

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i will never be able to eat seafood again

I did it all the time.... It's nasty with saltwater, fish tank water is ok compared to the real ocean.
I learned to just use a pump to drain my tanks.

i feel sick just thinking about it. one thing that made it worse was the water sucked up was right at the bottom along with lots of moldy food

and if you havent did this before people, imagine drinking diet pepsi or diet coke, times a thousand... :pepsi:

Shiphoning a tank is a masterd art. One that took a long time to master for me( 4 months). Once I learned how I had already swallowed 2 male swordtails, 5 danios, and a pleco. I could feel them squirming in my stomach!!!!!!! It was soo gross. And theese fish were all swallowed at different times( except for the 2 swordtails). suck on the tube very slowly, then when you can see some water about to face down the tube take a stronger "drink and promptly put the one end in the bucket, works every time.

How do you swallow your own fish! OMG I would feel horrible!
I think you need a smaller hose too.

Best way to do is get a hose bard and valve, attach it to the bucket end and fill the hose with water via a funnel, fill to about 6" before the sucking end and dip into tank, open valve....instant mouthless, fish swallowingless siphon.

Or, one can hold the hose end up above the top of the tank while leaving a loop below the water level, suck, then quickly put a finger over the end, lower into bucket, and presto. I just hate it when I forget to drain all the water out of the line before putting it away, think tank water is disgusting, try that for a nasty surprise...

i know how to syphon and stuff. the only problem was it was a very tiny tube, it was smaller then an airline tube you would use on an air pump. and even the smallest breath in will get it in your mouth. i don't know what i was thinking.

and how the heck do you swallow fish trying to syphon....?

Wow!!! I got a mouth of water once, but never had any other problems with it since then. I don't find it hard to do at all anymore! hahaha! i must be a lucky one!

 That sucks, I use a Python No-Spill ... but it wouldn't work in your case I guess :D And seriously how could you swallow a fish?? A pleco? That must've hurt!!!!

Dad once did that when cleaning out my old tank and omg he spat it out so far and he was soooooooooo sooooooooo mad after it lol!

What's all this talk about sucking on the end of a siphon to get the water out? What I do is wrap the siphon around in a circle, submerge it the water, turn it around in the water a couple of times to get the air out of the tube, stick my thumb on the end while its submerged, and let go of that end once it's aiming towards the bucket.
